Hi Matgreener.

I think you've got the basics of a very useful and readable guide entry here. I would suggest you consider expanding each point to two or three sentences first.

I would describe the event a little more. My brother-in-law does a similar event, maybe the same one - you probably overtook him somewhere. Can you cover the event in a little more detail, maybe including contact details for people who might be interested.

hi, I'd advice you to have a look through the guidliens for the edited guide, as there are a coupel of things that need working on - ie use of the 1st person

Mat, that's a big improvement. smiley - ok

It needs bringing into line with the style of other entries in the guide. It's worth having a browse through a few similar ones in the EG to give you an idea. Maybe some of the scouts reading this could suggest a few good ones.

I know it's a lot of work, but I think this would be a worthy addition if you could manage it.

I have two words for the absolute beginner: gel saddle.

Can be dispensed with once you develop a proper cyclist's bum but during the early days of training you don't want to be wincing every time you sit down...

There is a great "just go for it" tone to this article and it has a lot of useful information packed into it.

A few practical points:-

The title and the article don't fully correspond. The title suggests ways in which an unfit non-cyclist can become cyclist good enough to go for either long bike rides or a cycling holiday (ie more recreational in theme). The article is about competetive cycling and aimed more at the already enthusiastic cycler. Perhaps something along the lines of "Amateur competetive long-distance cycling"...?

"Audax" is Latin for "brave, daring, audacious".

Maybe alter the line "If you can not get into this event, spaces are limited, try another one in this country" to acknowledge the fact that not all h2g2 readers live in Britain.

Cut and paste the article into a Word document to iron out the odd typo.

The paragraphs in the list of tips should start with capital letters.

Yes this article is packed with useful info about preparing for something like the Tour de France - much of which could be useful to other cycling enthusiasts.

It just needs the few tweaks, as mentioned above - they're relatively minor, since the content's all there.

If you're away cycling - hope you're having a fab time. smiley - biggrinsmiley - ale

I really doubt that any professional cyclist will look to H2G2 for tips on the great race. You'd think after a couple of years on the pro scene they'd know what it would be about !!

Is this pickable as is? Or shall I propose a move to the FM?

I know that formatting and such can be done by a sub, but this really does need a fair amount of polishing and stuff I'd prefer to see it go to the FM, but I think Beth V2.0 suggests they might accept it, just incase Bradly Wiggins finds it usefull for his 1st Tour (shrugs)

I'd agree with Jon that FM is the best destination.
