Well here we are on the edge looking down. Big Bird and the BBC. Public funded TV. In the UK with the broadcasters supposedly catering some public service TV as part of the deal with the governemnt we manage to get this stuff out anyway.

Hands up who knew it was Stevie Wonder doing some of the music at the start of Seaseme Street smiley - winkeye

A programme about Joseph Campbell! Phil, you should watch this. If anyone knew more about the Eternal Champion idea I'd be very suprised. (See Campbell's book 'The hero with a thousand faces')Also, George Lucas would never have come up with the whole Star Wars concept.

Arrrghhhh, one of the few times I wish I did have a TV. The idea of the eternal champion, the multiverse and all that stuff, I would like to know more about. Oh well, let me know if it's any good.

Well, there was a UK showing of Joseph Campbell interviews quite a few years ago, before he died, and another about his influence sometime last year. Have a look at
[Broken link removed by Moderator]and the links it suggests.

NB please ignore previous suggestion. It doesn't seem to work any more. Just as well I printed it off then!

The link don't work for me smiley - sadface Just done a sarch on Joseph Campbell and the book title and found a few interesting snippets such as Stanley Kubrick gave a copy to Arthur C Clarke to read while working on 2001 (after ACC had shown SK how to use a slide rule smiley - smiley). The book seems to get mentioned a lot when talking about the history of myths and heros (seems to get mentioned a lot around Star Wars too...). Sounds like a book I should look up and read (like all the others). I've currently got a fascination about some of the ancient myths and am trying to read some of them, if just to see where the stuff i read (mostly fantasy and sci-fi) comes from.

Sorry about link. smiley - sadface You should search a bit closer to home! If you look at the bookcase link from your home page, you will see I knew you would like this 14 weeks ago!

Never mind about the link.

Perhaps the bookcase needs a bit of a spring clean then as I've not looked there for a while...

I simply LOVE public television. I worked for the local station's news department in the early 1990s and whenever Kermit would do a live stand-up from a place in history, everything would get quiet in the news room and we'd watch and critique his performance. For a newsman, he's one hell of a good frog! smiley - winkeye

And while we're here, let's not forget Pittsburgh's own - Mr. Fred Rogers! smiley - smiley

Do you guys get Mr. Roger's Neighborhood in the UK? He's the best - I grew up with him and now so are my kids! smiley - smiley

As long as that's Seasme Street, not Seasme's Treat the really dodgy acid house track, back when sampling kids TV themes was all the rage -so why was there no Ivor the Engine rip off then?smiley - winkeye

My cousin used to live near Sesame Street in Toronto. We used to sing the theme song whenever we went past. I'm sure the street existed before the TV show, so I wonder if there are other RL Sesame Streets out there?

The first time I visited the US was when one of the pledge weeks was in progress -- I couldn't believe the energy that went into it! I was a tourist with only US$ 500 to my name but I wanted to run right out and give it to those nice guys who brought Monty Python to the starving millions ... PBS is a wonderful conceptsmiley - smiley

What was that show that aired here in the UK, that showed all the American Public Access stuff? Some of it was really funny, some of it was really weird!
I think we need something like that here.
