Video: Gone in 70 Seconds

A squirrel, by DG.

This short video shows you how squirrels collect the black walnuts in our yard. They wait until the fat outer hull turns black. Then they gnaw it off before transporting the good bit to a secure but undisclosed location, bloop, bloop, bloop (their running style). The squirrels around here favour that big stump in the neighbour's yard for the hull-removal part. You can see evidence of previous hulls on the flat stump.

The chipmunks do this, too: they tend to leave the hull remains on our walk, front steps, or porch, causing grumbling on our part.

You will note that this video is puzzlingly popular on Youtube. After the first three days of steadily-climbing numbers, I figured it out: Youtube's AI has an algorithm that really likes the words 'squirrel' and 'bunny'. It puts such on everybody's start page. Now I know how to label my videos.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
