Look what I have just discovered!
Gigantic rocks in V formation, aimed at creating a narrow exit point for the water and maybe deeper water behind (maybe net across narrowest bit for catching fish on their way downstream). Probably fairly modern as it would have taken cranes and tractors to get these down the river banks and in place.
