"Porco Rosso" has a character who was turned into a pig. The same thing happened later in "Spirited away," which also deals with knocking down forests to build suburban houses.

I've liked most of the Japanese anime that I've seen -- "Howl's moving castle," "Ponyo," a film based on "The borrowers" (can't remember the title), and "Paprika". I don't qualify as much of an expert on anime, but I've tried to see the ones that cam to my local theater.

Nice article. If you have covered the films I mention above, I hope you share the delight that I felt when I saw them.

"Princess Mononoke" also hits an environmental awareness button.

I've also seen "Whisper of the heart" and "The secret world of Arrietty." Ghibli has only made 22 films? I think I've seen five or six. Not as bad a record as I had thought. I also saw part of "My neighbor Totorro," but not enough to say much about it.

Other years are going to be covered in other entries, which will be heading to the front page soon! At the moment they have made about 23 1/2 films (counting co-production 'The Red Turtle' as one) - they had one in production at the start of lockdown and I'm not sure what has happened with it but it hasn't been released yet. I imagine that it is fairly finished as they had planned to release it to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. I've not finished writing the 2016-2024 entry yet for some reason...

There are other studios that make films in very similar styles that are well worth seeking out.
