A Conversation for Neon Lighting
MONA, the Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles
PANAMA Started conversation Nov 26, 2002
A small, underfunded and possibly underappreciated institution, the Museum of Neon Art is located on the south edge of downtown Los Angeles. They have a nice stading exhibit, a good gift shop and pieces that are exhibited at various locations on a semipermanent basis throughout the city.
The museum has been responsible for restoration of several 'historic' neon installations throughout the city, and classes are available for those who would like to try thier hand and neon sculpture.
The best thing that they do, by far, is conduct regular tours of 'working neon' throughout the city. Participants meet at the museum on selected Saturday evenings where there is a little reception and an opportunity to view the exhibit. Then they board an old Austin London style double decker bus for the tour. The upper level is open allowing an unobstructed view. Libations are poured and a very well informed and witty docent conducts the tour.

Very interesting, thanks.
I'll make sure to list that as a "must see" when I ever get to LA. Are you involved with this museum somehow ?
