Introduction
In the words of that famous philosopher, Mick Jagger, "Allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and fame..."
Not so much wealth and very little fame. I come from a place that helped to unify the earth by dividing it...the Panama Canal. I am a member of a lost civilization, (culture, actually) which ended with the millenium. That culture occupied the Canal Zone, a ten mile wide region spanning the Isthmus of Panama along the path of the Panama Canal. Those living in this region were known as "Zonians" and were the people who operated, maintained and defended the Canal as well as their families. We were all, in a manner of speaking, members of a larger family which has continued to exist in various levels of exile. We shall continue to exist in some form until our last member breathes their last breath. The majority of us are either American or Panamanian although a sprinkling of most other cultures can be found among us. The 'Zone' was a small piece of America nestled within the soveriegn boundaries of foreign country, the Republic of Panama, which has led to a love - hate relationship between the two since the early 1900's.
I am serving my own personal exile in the Los Angeles area, mostly because of the temperate climate, proximity to water and Hispanic influence. I have been a fan of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy since Douglas Adam's first book, mostly because I have encountered some of the unusual life forms he has described in his books. (You should all be aware that it is an unwritten law that alien life forms who visit Planet Earth must check in through Los Angeles, the extraterrestrial equivelent of Ellis Island)
I look forward to my association with this page and in the future will bring some views and insights about my 'culture' in Central America.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
