I know quite a few of those types of people... if they go on h2g2 they usually happen to be the more interesting species of scientist! I guess I count as a partial chemist myself... although for some bizarre reason I consider myself to be an arty person who through a very haphazard unfortunate sequence of events acquired a place on an A-level chemistry course! Methinks that's also my chemistry teacher's theory on the matter!

I'm fairly partial myself...
The only thing I really regret saying on my first date was that I was feeling sick at the thought of eating. Eating out makes me nervous as it is, and add that to first date nerves, and I wasn't up to eating, so we skipped it and just saw the movie, but it was a really put a downer on the first part of the date, but he understood.

It definitely telegraphed nervousness. Sometimes men find that endearing, oooh look, she's all nervous because she fancies me...

Makes you able to say 'aww, he/she/it is all nervous because he/she/it fancies me'

This has gorn a little off topic, but thats usewal in most conversations. Especaily first dates when you be talking about somthing (usealy about some form of first date topic, ie what's your life been like, family/lifestyle Q&A, whats your sexual orientatain, you know the useawal. In fact pointing out that the conversation has gorn off topic is usally a convo killer and a big one.

It's only relevant in places like this where the conversation is supposed to have a subject.
If you're just having a nice RL conv, saying that you've gone 'off topic' is going to suggest that there was a set topic, and that something weird is going on.

She? Oops... in case you didn't know, Cupid's a gay guy!
Instant assumptions that straight people make... all apologies It's just the way my brain is wired!
Cupid's a gay guy? That may be why I never pull

Absolutely none taken - An honest mistake, as opposed to the ignorance I get IRL... But that is off topic!
I'm probably not the actual cupid - I borrowed the name from Kenny Everet. Beleive me, if I was cupid, I'd pull a lot more often... Just kidding, but those of you who regularly hear about my escapades and lack thereof know what i mean. and those who don't - mind your own!

Pointing out sarcasm implies:
either
a) we're stupid
or
b) you're not doing it very well
And kills conversations, by saying that one of the people present is lacking something (brains, a sense of humour, whatever)

*I went to the beach and saw kiki, and she was all like 'eu!' so I was like*
Whatever!
It's quite fitting that we killed the conversation in a forum about killing conversations though.

The reason I made the point about spotting the sarcasum was none of you know me very well, and therefor woint know if I am being sarcastic or not. Although this implyes that some of you don't know me. However there is a descreet possiblyity you do. Anyway the reason was that you cant spot sarcasum in text very easliy unless you make it bleeding obvoius (which my text wasnot nessasarily). This is inherrit of a text document (also is my spelling which anit exactly grade B (Its ment to be A but I know what I mean)).

Okay, but in a real conversation (which you're presumably having on uyour date, right?) if you point out your sarcasm it's not good.

Yes I know that, however its getting to the first date I have more of a trouble with than the actual date itselth.
