In the Star Wars novels are also mentioned that Darth Vader's TIE is an X1 prototype, some Interceptors have shields, and other TIE's include the Defender (3 wings, ioncannons, lasercannons, missiles, hyperdrive) and the TIE droid fighters (less mass, so more manouverable, but don't gain experience). Also you seem to have overlooked the fact that TIE stands for Twin Ion Engine. Just thought you might be interested.

Um, it does mention what TIE stands for, in words 3 to 5 of paragraph 1.

It's primarily Avenger squadron who have shielded T/Is isn't it?

Dunno, I imagine sheiled T/Is are pretty rare.
But should defenders etc. be added to this list as they dont appear in the movies - Just Eyeballs, dupes, 1 bright and squints.

I think there's several brights in the battle of Endor, but then again, they might be squints seen from an awkward angle.

I'll have to look.
Could be Dupes from an awkward angle too though.

No, the're definitely not dupes, you sort of see them from the aft quarter, and the've only got 1 hull.

As a representative of the Galactic Empire, allow me to clarify a few matters...
Grand Admiral Thrawn had his hand in designing the non-TIE craft designated the Missile Boat (MIS), designed to counter the threat of former Admiral Zaarin's rogue TIE Defenders (T/D), and the increasing attacks on TIE Advanced (T/A) manufacturing plants. This was between the battles of Hoth and Endor, and it was Zaarin's defection that prevented the mass use of the T/D or T/A at the Battle of Endor. (I believe there may have been one or two such craft present).
Zaarin, before his defection, was able to design and implement a system for shielding any TIE craft. This system is now in widespread use in the Imperial Navy.
Avenger Squadron, as I recall, were equipped with shielded TIE Interceptors (T/I), then equipped with TIE Advanced during their campaign against the Airam pirates on the Outer Rim.

T/D's are in fact TIE droid fighters, mainly produced by the World Devastators during the battle of Calamari. And I can't acces that site, because of "bloody murders" and "strong language"
