So, esteemed author and pioneer of public-house perambulations...
Where exactly have you tried this marvellous sport?
Any recommendations ?

It would be good to know if there are any particular spots we should be heading for or avoiding. That way if there are lots of single people drinking in the pub most of them will be h2g2ers!

Okay, my favourite places:
South-East Kent (Okay, it's home, but you get Sherpherd Neme)
The Yorkshire Dales (Only done it once, but it was excellent)
I have also heard nothing but praise for Devon and Cornwall, though I haven't done it myself. I'm also told that, if you can get through the language barrier, Welsh Wales is worth a look.
I'm not going to be more specific than that. Why not add a message here about the strengths and weaknesses of your own home area?

Coming from Devon and living in Welsh Wales (Aberystwyth to be precise) I can recommend both as venues for this activity.
In fact, embarking as I am on an indefinite period of unemployment, I'll try some routes in the coming weeks and get back to you...

I would recommend the West Dorset/ east Devon/ south Somerset areas of England. Each is definitely rural and yet still has a good density of pubs. The beer tends to be ok too.
Can I suggest a third type of pub crawl, the open ended crawl?
Here you go to your first pub, then rely on the other drinkers to direct you to the next. You'll probably see better pubs that way and you have the added frisson of striking out into the unknown.
Also, a two or three member crawl will reduce taxi costs

Locomotiv -- Open ended crawls an excellent idea.
I will try one at the next opportunity. (A few months hence, in other words, they're not much fun in Winter).
Key: Complain about this post
