Why not try this on a bicycle? Your maximum range will be increased, you'll get through more pubs per day yet your appreciation of the beauty of the English countryside will be undiminished. It's also unlikely that you will be breathalysed unless you actually meet with an accident, and even then you can always run away; after all, bikes don't carry number plates!
I will not minimise the risks of serious and permanent injury if you attempt this; cycling on many rural roads is a hazardous proposition at the best of times. However, the likelihood of causing collateral damage is fairly small, at least in areas with few pedestrians, and the only person you'd be seriously endangering is yourself.
Just try not to get a puncture.
