Counting wins with conkers

I always understood that scoring in conker matches went as follows: Take your conker's current score as 'a' and your opponent's conker's score as 'b'. After the battle, the winner's score is 'a + b + 1'. So if neither conker had 'fought' before, the score is '0 + 0 + 1 = 1'. If one conker had a score of 2 and the other had a score of 10, the winning score would be '2 + 10 + 1 = 13'.
I guess it depends on which part of the country you come from.

Would you continue to vie with a high-value conker, or would you save it as something remarkable, that other children could covet?
