... some theories about horse chestnut trees I really like:
1st: Even if you do that during a storm, standing under a horse chestnut tree never will cause that the chestnuts are dropping on your head. They seem to be kind of polite... 
2nd: My very own theory... In spring, there must be a night when all the leaves pop up with a big bang. The day before, you can almost see nothing of them, the day after, everything is very green. Similar thing happening in some night in autumn: All the leaves falling down in just one night...
