The reason why this cake burns so easily is because it's being cooked at 180 Centigrade which is far too high for a fruitcake. If you cook it at about 160 Centigrade, it doesn't burn.

Oven temperatures are the bane of my life. I suspect that I employ the same rule of thumb with them as I do when cooking vegetables - when in doubt, boil them to death.

I really must try to be more temperate. I shall take confidence and turn the gauge down. smiley - ok
