A Conversation for How Best to Prepare Yourself to Become President of the USA

It should be pointed out that although George Bush did not choose a military career, he (like many others, I expect) did serve in the military as a (naval?) pilot during WWII.

The fact that he did so, and was shot down during the war for the Pacific meant that when he sent troops to the Persian Gulf, he did so with a much better understanding of what the possible consequences were for the individuals "on the ground".

people always claim that this makes a big difference. But the comander in chief has TONS of military people adivising him, all of whom have probably had very distinguished military careers. And all of these people HAVE seen action. If they don't agree with the president sending in troops somewhere, they noisily resign.

The article does mention GHWB's role in the military.
His son also served, in the reserves, and was never deployed in active duty in combat.

I believe George Jr actually requested to serve in combat, but his request was denied, I think at his father's will. He never had combat experience. (My reference would be the nice liberal 'The Bush Dyslexicon', by Mark Crispin Miller.)

Haven't read that, is it worth a purchase?
Love the title.

I'm not counting reservists for a simple reason. And I thought I had pointed out that some were career soldiers but that others ahd service of some sort, normally at a time of national need.

It's a pretty funny book... I got it from the library, I don't know if I'd actually buy the book, but I don't buy very many books. If you have a chance, take a look at it... I found it pretty funny (and disturbing too).

I was in a bookstore today and picked up Stupid White Men (incidentally, it was right next to The Bush Dyslexicon). Hilarious!

Boy George requested combat? Was that before Daddy got him into the Texas National Guard, which was a haven at that time to get out of going to the war? Or did he have a change of heart once he was in, decide he wanted to go after all and when he was refused get so miffed that he refused to take his flight physical and ended up not bothering to go to meetings? Just wondering.
