A Conversation for One-hit Wonders

Mike Oldfield

Cheerful Dragon

I was going to nominate Mike Oldfield as the only single of his that I can remember having chart success was 'Guilty' back in the late 70s (I think). I know he released other singles, such as 'Portsmouth' and 'In Dulce Jubilo', as well as 'Moonlight Shadow' which was sung by his sister Sally. Can anybody out there tell me how well these singles did?

<'Moonlight Shadow' which was sung by his sister Sally>

Actually, it was sung by Maggie Reilly. As far as I know, while they did produce an album together as The Sallyangie, the only Mike piece that Sally sang on is Incantations.

And, of course, considering he had two successive number one albums, he can hardly be considered a one-hit wonder, even if Tubular Bells did take Hergest Ridge's place as number one and his biggest success since was Tubular Bells II in 1992.
