What about those never to be forgotten one hit wonders from the late sixties, The 1910 Fruitgum company, with their one (and only?) hit "Simon Says" It had a catchy beat and was played on the radio, and at parties for (what seemed to me ) a long time. Does anybody else remember them?

Those late sixties bubblegum groups are worth a whole article. Even though you can see them performing on YouTube, I suspect the 1910 Fruitgum Company didn't actually exist, but was the result of a collision between a gang of session musicians, a smart A&R man and a few bottles of something very strong.
There were other even more synthetic groups at the same time: Ohio Express, for example, (Yymmy Ymmy Yummy I've Got Love in My Tummy) and (I think) the St Lois Invisible Marching Band.
