A Conversation for Great Film Locations

Hillingdon , Greater London

We've had quite a few films partly made in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

It is one of the nearest built up areas to Pinewood Studios.

Bend it like Beckham had the outdoor scenes shot in Barra Hall Park. They found that as they were shooting two older Sikh men would take their morning walk through the park at that same time each day so they eventually asked them if they would be willing to walk through while they shot the scene.

Barra Hall itself, an old building in the park which is now council offices was used for the film Chocolat where the board room was converted with dark wood shelving and panelling to be the Mayor's Office.

Windsor Street in Uxbridge is made up of old buildings that lend themselves with little adaptation to be a street of shops from years ago. They have appeared in the Poirot stories of Agatha Christie on film.

The Civic Centre in Uxbridge was used in one of the earlier Superman movies.

Heathrow Airport which is also in Hillingdon has appeared in a huge number of movies.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
