Just to say that I have just finished reading this book, and it is all you say, and more.
Multilayered, multifacited, I want to read it again, and soon.
I was prejudiced against it because I find it much easier to read text than picture books. But this one is definitely worth it.

Great that you liked it. Did it make you want to read any other comic books

Welcome to h2g2, Nate.
Did it make me want to read more? Ye-es and no. Hoovooloo has given me a reading list of Sandman books, but I haven't got around to buying any yet.
All the best

Sandman is so beautfiully written. If you like fantasy and things like that, I'm sure you'd love it. It's one of my best loved series of books ever. You should read his written fiction. American Gods is amazing

I have read either all or almost all of Gaiman's written fiction. And yes, American Gods IS amazing. I assume you have read 'Good Omens' which he wrote with Pratchett. Of Pratchett's books I regard 'Small Gods' as the best because it too looks at the power of belief, which is something which fascinates me. In fact I have written three guide entries about belief, how it works, and what it does to us.
Have fun!
