A Conversation for Linkin Park - the Band

This may have been covered in one of the links and I just didn't see it--or it could be totally obvious and I'm too old...BUT, I've been wondering, why are they called Linkin Park? What's the significance of that name?
When I first heard of them, I thought their name was LINCOLN Park and I scratched my head wondering why a band would name itself after an affluent neighborhood on Chicago's north side (or alternatively, why they would name themselves after a park on the Chicago Lakefront). I mean, there are worse things to name a band after, but it struck me as an odd choice.
Anyway, my early theories were wrong--it's "Linkin" and not "Lincoln" and they are clearly not a band of north-side Chicagoans...so why the name?
Just curious.
