A Conversation for Linkin Park - the Band

Linkin Park? The latest corporate boyband, accessible to the millions, combining the usual bland sounds with oh-so-fashionable-and-cute Chester. Millions of pre-pubescents swoon for him.
IN NO WAY SHOULD THE LABEL OF METAL BE APPLIED TO THESE LOSERS.
Look up Linkin Park in the dictionary and what do you find? Formula's and trademarks.
Nothing more to it.
And please dont retalliate by telling me how Chester is so *tortured*...pft.

The soul of metal IS at stake due to the fashion currently at large. When i got into metal it was about the music, then wearing the same styles etc as your mates comes as second nature. Not like these days when you see the local Kappa kids mysteriously changed over the space of the weekend into a (kiddie sized) slipknot hoodied, (un-used) skateboard carrying, fashion victims. Went shopping with mummy did we? My g/f used to work in a record shop. She used to say about the kids who'd come in wearing a hoodie of a particular band, the cd they were actually buying was the kids first album by the band. THEY BUY THE CLOTHES BEFORE THE BUY THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Get the fashion,
Get the metal with the angst, anger, hate removed and replaced by pop rhythms and boy-band choruses.
Get your skateboard (its just to carry to look cool anyway)
Get band names patched and tippexed over your (quite new) Nike bag.
Its horrible, somebody save us from this fate....

Saturnine we are talking about the same thing, we are both from Bristol. Does the name Wai-Gong ring a bell? Do you goto/havebeento the 'keller (obviously)
Have a look on college green, its enough to make you vomit.
On another note, you say on you homepage about music, that you like anything with a soul. Well, EMINEM is about the most soulless s**t availabel, its not even music its musical entertainment.
'hehehe he said he'd tear off your head and feed you your balls' Oh the hilarity, the soul, the annoying whine.
Sorry. I do not like soulless music, or, as i have called it' musical entertainment. This is because to me, real music by definition has a soul.

I hate this anti-nu metal attitude. It was exactly the same in the 70's - Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple fans dismissed Iron Maiden, Def Leppard etc when they came out. I was one of them in fact, though I had the excuse of youthful ignorance.
Then Metallica and Slayer emerged, and everyone slagged it off and called it "punk". There were always kids who bought the T shirt 'cos they thought it was cool but didn't like the music. And old fans always thought themselves superior to new fans.
You cannot dismiss an entire genre because of its fashion connotations. Or even dismiss a band because they didn't happen to record their first album in the singer's garage - perhaps they were just good enough to be spotted and signed up by a huge record label. This is doing exactly what the anti-nu metal brigade accuse others of doing - putting fashion and politics ahead of the music.
I've been a fan, and a musician, for 30 years and welcome nu metal with open arms. Traditional metal had its day. It is is now bland, formulaic, and has been done to death. Now you have a choice - you can have it extreme and heavy, or melodic and heavy. Linkin Park are far more sophisticated and melodic than most of the traditional riff/solo merchants.
