When stuck in the middle of writing a lab report or essay, I fin nothing more refreshing than a couple games of Unreal Tournament. Nothing like fragging a bunch of bots and other players for a break.

Sometimes putting yourself in a closet or other small space can force you to focus on the job at hand and eliminate distractions. It has worked for me.

I did exactly that during my last year of High School. I'd had 2 months to work on a Term Paper, but had vacillated on getting it done. The one thing that saved my bacon was having done all the research in advance. So...I closed the door to my room, stuffed a towel into the gap at the bottom, moved a bunch of shoes and stuff off the floor of my closet, hooked up the Smith-Corona electric typewriter and a fluorescent lamp to an outlet outside the closet, then dragged all my notes, index cards, and a ream of paper in under the hanging shirts and pants. Thankfully my parents weren't bothered by the tap-tap-tapping of the keys and the typebar. Paper turned in on time, albeit by a bleary-eyed young lad who determined never again to wait so late.
