A good use of socks, though more normally just a sock is to put a tennis ball in the toe end of a football sock, tie off the sock above the ball leaving the remainder of the sock to hold. by swinging the sock round you have a lightweight but highly effective "ball and chain". I used to carry one in my pocket when I cycled and used it to dent motorists cars when they cut me up etc. If you are more viscious or criminally inclined rplace the tennis ball with a snooker/pool ball or lead shot wrapped in a hankie.

Another thing to fill the sock with is spare change(pennies best so your not out alot of cash if lost) that way it can act as both a weapon and handy supply of emergancy cash.

fill the socks with stones. this may make an effective weapon. or you can fill the sock with sand, and throw it at people who invade your pearsonal space
