IMHO no Dr Who episode guide is worth its salt unless it indicates the 106ish that have been lost since the BBC cleared out it's archives.

I was going to bring up a point about the lost episodes that
first, and only have skimmed though this entry at the moment, since I think its every fans dream of having all the episodes returned some mention of them would have been good, so people are awear of them, and
second a link to my entry about the lost episodes
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A356825
good entry all the same

I did think of putting in what episodes were lost, but realised it would be hard to put the episodes which are lost in an edited guide entry, as if just one episode is found, the entry immediately goes out of date. An episode could be foun tomorrow, and my entry would immediately be out of date. Of course, if the editors want they can add the entry about lost episodes to the references.

"Of course, if the editors want they can add the entry about lost episodes to the references."
Good idea. I'll tug some sleeve.

Bluebottle Posted Jan 18, 2002
I would have argued that they should have been included - with many episodes, different versions may exist. Even if a copy of a lost episode had been found, there may have been scenes etc. edited out of that copy, which only another copy may replace. Or a copy may be found, but poor quality in some areas, meaning a better quality one is needed before a general release. Hence the importance of the Australian clips a couple of years back.
But a link to the Lost Episodes Guide is definately essential.

sorry if I sounded a little harsh, but it was past my bedtime,
the only trouble with the lost episodes entry is that it doesn't say what episodes are missing.
I supose that someone could do a list of missing episodes, doesn't mean that it has to be an edited entry.
the only other thing is that, there are clips from some episodes that exist, and if you'ver ever read about the restoration work that goes on on the doctor who restoration teams web site, you'll know that that there are a lot of bits and peices which exist, some is quality stuff some is unusable peices, some episodes are shorter, due to the returned copy bing an edited version and so on, so what do you onclude and what don't you, we all liked to see the colour episodes in colour, so would you include them even though a black and white copy exists?.

GTBacchus Posted Jan 19, 2002
Well, how about a link to the Doctor Who Resotration Team website? We can't post in in this forum, but if you get it to me or someone, by posting it on your personal space, say, we can ask an italic to put it in the references section of either this entry of the Lost Episodes one.
How's that sound?
The problem with an unedited Entry is that you can't link to it from an Edited Entry, except in the forums. Actually, that might be a good way... write an unedited Entry with a list of lost episodes, relevant details, and any appropriate links, and then we link to that Entry from right here!

I think the link to the restoration site in the lost episode entry works, but it deffinalty should be added to all doctor who entries
an unedited entry souds good to me

I have an idea about this. I do have some info on my computer that I can use to find out what episodes do not exist, but it is a few years old. What I'll do is go through this, make a list of all the episodes that don't exist, then link it from here. Then some of you guys can check it over and correct me if I've got a few things wrong, then I'll put it forward fo the edited guide. We could quite easily ask the editors if they could update the entry every 6 months or 1 year with a new list that we could give them. It may also be good if we turn this into a co-operative entry, since I don't know as much about the restoration team as some of you. If I create the list and link it from here, then we can work on making an acurate guide entry out of it to be submited to the edited guide. Any objections to the name, "Missing Episodes of Doctor Who"?

the only comment about the title is that there is an entry about the missing episodes, so perhaps 'Doctor Who The Missing Episode Guide'?,
Id be glad to help, I think that story titles and episode titles (for the ones that have them) should be included, and maybe a list about colour copies of episodes wanted, and any significant clips missing wanted, I'll have to check it out.

I've created the entry and have begun putting the info for the first 2 Doctors into tables. All the info can be seen below it. the entry can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A683877 . I don't what episodes only appear in black and white at this moment, but if you can find out it would be great, and you may know of some episodes that have been found since my list was created.
I'm goiung to do a project on Doctor Who, but have put back the start dates due to school work. I will probably include this as part of this project. If you have any other ideas for Doctor Who entries, then I would be happy for you to tell me them and do them for my project, or to work with me or other people to make good collaborative Doctor Who entries. The project page can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A664184 .
GTBacchus, I'm wondering if you'd like to sub-ed my project. I have no idea how editng projects works so you could probably tell me. If not, then would you be able to point me in the direction of another good sub-editor you know.
I'll finish off putting the information for the Missing Episodes Guide into tables tomorrow. Tell me what you think of the format and how I am presenting it. When we gewt to finding Doctor Who stories that are only in Black and White, I will have to list them slightly differently, but I will still try to make it as clear as possible. What I will do when I get round to it is begin to write an introductiona and link the page to the lost episodes page.
That's all for now.

"GTBacchus, I'm wondering if you'd like to sub-ed my project."
Sure thing. I've never Subbed a project before, but it's no problem to arrange. I guess you've already set up the Project Index Page... *checks that out*... yeah looks good. Go ahead and list me as the Sub, and I'll email Anna or whichever italic about what's going on. We'll figure it all out from there.
I've already Subbed two Doctor Who Entries just by chance, so why quit now? Maybe someday I'll actually watch an episode or two.
Meanwhile, you said something about using tables... *checking your format*... looks great! Keep up the good work on that, and I'll see you at the project page.

I've just about finshed the entry now. it can still be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A683877 .All that isn't in there is what episodes are only in Black and White, but that isn't essential to the entry, only a bonus. If someone could check it and tell me what they think, that would be great.

OK really great article, sorry to have taken so long but I've been waithing on a new computer,
first a couple of things to rectify, (I got this info from http://www.drwhouniverse.com/missing.html)
William hartnell
THE CRUSADE episode 1 "The Lion" found not so long ago
Patric troughton
THE WEB OF FEAR, episode 6 is also missing I think
THE FACELESS ONES, episode 3 is badly damaged, so maybe a footnote could be added to indicate this
Jon Pertwee colour copies needed of
'The Mind of Evil' (episodes 1 - 6)
'Planet of the Daleks' (episode 3)
'Invasion of the Dinosaurs' (episode 1) (titled "Invasion")
'The Ambassadors of Death' (episodes 2 - 7)
One of the reasons why I wrote the entry about the lost episodes is because I wanted to make people awear of the fact, so if they happen to come across an episode they might return it to the bbc, well it may not happen but if there's a chance..., so if you you write a list of missing episodes, then it might be worth including the actuall names of the episodes as the story titles are not present on the episodes themselves.
you could perhaps list them under the tables, as the tables look so good, if you want to include them that is.
Episode titles of missing episodes,
MARCO POLO (All episodes missing)
The Roof of the World (Episode 1)
The Singing Sands (Episode 2)

'Planet of the Daleks' (episode 3)
just because it's black and white doesn't make it any less watchable.
All the other episodes are in color so you see what you are missing and the entire story is brilliant.
You even get a flying Dalek (Sly McCoy - you weren't the 1st!), ok yeah it's on a gravity pad but it still flys.
Can I ask, what actual full Dalek stories are available to buy.
Dvd or video or whatever ?

I know recently that clips of Dalek Master plan & Power Of the Daleks have recently been unearthed.
Only TINY snippets though.
