Has anyone ever seen the film 'To Live'? I think it's directed by Zhang Yimou and stars Gong Li. It's absolutely lovely - one of my favourite films of all time.

I can't say that I have seen it, although I have recently noticed that the far eastern film industry has become pretty big. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Tears Of The Black Tiger are just a couple.
The last one I can remember seeing advertised was a film called "Battle Royal" Think carefully before viewing. All it really is, is a Japanese gore fest!

"To Live" is a great film, and one of the few easily available in the UK highstreet stores. His previous film "Shanghi Triad"is also available from the same company.

Yes, 'To Live' is also one one of the films I admire most from the 5th Generation Directors. I included the film in a piece I wrote about "China's 5th Generation Filmmakers", it is about China's History, Family life and the Persecuted in Zhang Yimou's 'To Live', Tian Zhuangzhuang's 'The Blue Kite' and Chen Kaige's 'Farewell My Concubine'.
Would love to hear others' thoughts on the article I wrote, you can leave comments at the article at: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/17286/personal_revolutions_from_chinas_5th.html
