h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Ingredients:
1 Tin Baked Beans
1 Tin plum tomatoes
2 peppers
1 handful mushrooms
1 onion
Garlic - amt depending on preference
Mixed herbs ( basil, oregano etc)
Black Pepper
Bread to serve with
Serves 4 as a side dish or two as a main dish.

Method:
This recipe is so easy and relatively cheap, great for students!
1) Chop everything that needs chopping
2) Soften onion in little oil using medium sized pan
3) add garlic, mushroom and peppers and soften
4) add tin of tomatoes and herbs
5) simmer for half hour (approx) over medium heat
6) add beans(drained) and stir, stir, stir for 5 minutes
7) serve with crusty bread, might need a bowl if you are a messy eater like me.

I apologise if I've missed anything out and accept no responsibility, I'm not the worlds greatest chef but this generally hits the spot.

Sounds good.
But if it's going to be called goulash then it needs to have a couple of tablespoons full of Paprika.
(It's what makes a goulash into a goulash - rather than just any old stew.)
(And yes, I do mean Tablespoons - Paprika isn't a hot spice, after all, just a warm cosy kind.)

I have a Hungarian cookbook at home which lists at least three different variations on Goulash
(or "Gulyas" - if you prefer) and like many Hungarian dishes they are almost overloaded with Paprika.

Ah yes, I forgot about that-cheers!. Add paprika but not too much as the baked bean sauce actually contains some already.

I make a mean 3-bean salad.

Ingredients:
1 tin sliced green beans.
1 tin butter beans.
1 tin baked beans in HOT CILLI Sauce.
(If you can't get it where you live, ask any South African to send you some)

Method:
Open tins.
Pour into bowl.

(Also good hot over rice!)

Is hot cilli sauce like hot chilli sauce only dafter?

Unlike the English, Sow-effricans drop h's in the middle of words!
