Bill Hicks seems to be growing in popularity, his material continuing to have a relevance which few contemporary comedians can match. Articles regularly appear in newspapers and magazines, but tend to go over the same ground. This is true also of the book AMERICAN SCREAM by Cynthia True. Though it is the first biography of Hicks, it offers little insight into his life and work. Hicks fans have generally given it a lukewarm reception, but on the horizon have appeared two new books that might just satisfy those fans. First up is the recently released ONE CONSCIOUSNESS by Paul Outhwaite. This book looks at Hicks' career in terms of his influences and the origins of his material. Outhwaite has some interesting angles to explore in dissecting Hicks' style and philosophy and setting it in a cultural context. It seems to be a limited released, infrequently available on Amazon and the publisher's website http://dmproductions.freeyellow.com/oneconsciousness.html
Also sometime in the future is a book taking a more personal look at Hicks' life. As yet untitled, it is being written by his friend Kevin Booth and promises to offer more insight than True's book. No date has yet being set (by all account Booth is still working on it), but his website www.sacredcow.com should be the first place to check.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
