is 3 the magic number?

It seems to me that the most important number in the universe is the number 3. Why? Well, we see three colours, there's the holy trinity, 3 seems to be the total number of laws neccesary to make a scientific discovery (laws of motion, thermodynamics etc) - all of geometry seems to boil down to triangles, and if you want to create a dynamic system, you need a minimum of 3 variables that interact and modify one another. Meanwhile Freud imagined 3 distinct dynamics combined to create a personality. I'm sure there are more instances of this 3ness coming to the fore.
The other thing I was wondering is based on something I heard a while back about there only being 8 original stories or plots in existance - has anyone else heard of this idea? If it's true (and I didn't just dream it) then perhaps those 8 stories are based on the absence or existance of 3 fundamental dynamics too!
I'm considering doing some research and perhaps writing an entry on this subject, and would be interested in hearing anyone's thoughts and ideas on the topic...

Sorry for butting in, yes 3 is interesting, and 1,2,0. If you are researching 3 can you help me to decide if m,n natural such that if (2^m)-1 is divisible by 3 then their exists n>m and (2^n)-1 divisible by 3.
