h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

This movie was honestly on eof the worst I've ever seen. The characters were not at all well-developed--as a matter of fact, they were some of the most stereotypical, flat characters I've ever seen. They were all horrible actors, and it didn't help that they were given horribly predictable roles. Hmm, I wonder if the hero's going to get through the impossible maze, even though he's just a normal kid? Of course, because that is what Heroes do! Ugh. The romance was predictable and I wasn't sympathetic at all. The Wayan was nothing but the black comedic character who offered cheap one-liners and hardly charmed the audience with his goofy-but-overdone antics.

And the special effects? They seemed to be done in a hurry and made overly extravegant to mask the lack of a plot.

And one more thing--the empress? She was nothing but a rip-off of Queen Amadala, who was a much more interesting and round character.

My friends and I had a great time making fun of it, however, and predicting every turn of the plot with a sad accuracy.

I totally agree!
When I first got out of the cinema, I regretted spending money on it, but afterwards, in the pub, we had a good time just making fun of it, so in that way it wasn't lost money.

I think ANY Dungeons and Dragons player (I'm talking about the tabletop RPG) can come up with a better story than that, I've never seen anything as cliché and flat before... Some of the details also bothered me, like a beholder (which is supposed to be one of the heavier monsters in ADnD) flying off like a puppy because you throw a stone in the other direction (??!!), or like a mage who can't do any magic, or like a character who dies but is not really dead, etc etc.

i totally didn't see the comparison to Queen Amadala in the entry...i suppose i must have skimmed over it.

oh well....you knew everyone was thinking it, anyway.
