If the food is great, little else matters

I remember a picnic in the rain that was wonderful--
of course it helped that we found a covered picnic
table on the side of a mountain.

Good things to take on a picnic:
smiley - burger
smiley - hotdog
smiley - corncob
smiley - cake
smiley - tomato
smiley - coffee
smiley - strawberrysmiley - strawberrysmiley - strawberry
smiley - cupcakesmiley - cupcake
smiley - tea
Other choices: sandwiches (it's best to
make them beforehand, just in case it's too windy
at the picnic site. Lemonade is good, too.
Baked beans and ham and cole slaw make a good
combination.
Soup or chili may or may not be a good choice,
depending on how level the picnic table is--
you wouldn't want to spill hot stuff on your lap...

Picnic Food

There are some foods which, I believe, must have been invented purely for the sake of eating on a picnic. The subway sandwich, for instance, and those long pastries with chicken and sour cream inside. To make these, you take a rectangle of puff pastry, place a line of chopped chicken breast on it, place dobs of sour cream along the line of chicken, fold the pastry over and seal with a little water and bake in a moderate oven until golden brown.
