Tombolo is where an off-shore rock is joined to the mainland by a beach.
Portland is a perfect example - the island is joined to the mainland by Chesil Beach.

That's a good idea - I'm sure I missed a few!
I used to make occasional work trips to Portland - Chesil Beach is an amazing feature - is it unique in the world?
The rest of the Dorset Coast is pretty amazing, too.
