there is no mention of 'crabs' and I am disapointed cos' I've heard enthusiasts mention crabs and hoped it would be explained here. I'm sure its to do with a particular type or class of locomotive and relative to its wheel arrangements. hopefully someone will be kind enough to elucidate.smiley - smiley

the crabs were a class of LMS 2-6-0 mixed traffic engines. They were so called because the boiler looked like it was sinking between the frames, which apparently made it look crab like
