I just read that the World Trade Center just got its first kosher food cart. It's a patented design, and it's been made to conform to Jewish dietary laws.

That's very cool. There's also a kosher food cart on the corner where I live; it's been there a long time because it's within spitting distance of Mount Sinai Hospital. If a recent poll is to be believed, this specific cart serves the third best hot dog in New York City (after, unsurprisingly, Katz's and Nathan's dogs).
It's hard to imagine exactly how they keep carts kosher, eh? What with all the this-can't-touch-that stuff going on.

oh god. i wish i hadn't just read that about the world trade center. not his fault, i suppose, but it's in very bad taste, considering. or maybe i just have a soft spot for hot dog carts.

I agree--even references to the World Trade Center made months before are startling to see now. I have an entire issue of Time Out New York that advertises several events that were supposed to happen there this week. Sadly, nobody could have seen this coming.

Bad taste? It was written months before the tragedy. I'd be the last person in the world to make tasteless comments at a time like this. Especially not when I'm still waiting for word on missing friends.

Shea,
I was trying to be generous; I think our friend didn't realize it was written so long ago, and found it weird that anyone would comment on it. Or, perhaps he thought that maybe such comments would be expunged by an editor? In any case, we're all on the same side here: what happened was awful, and everyone is trying to figure out how to deal with it.
I really hope that your friends are all right. I consider myself very lucky that all my friends and family are accounted for; some of them have some crazy stories about getting out of the buildings before they came down. I can't imagine what it's like to not know, and my heart goes out to you.
Take care.
