I think you're barking up the wrong tree and should branch out into other avenues. If that's something you can't twig to, I'll go out on a limb and suggest you find the root to your problems. That way you won't sap your energy and you'll leaf your current situation.

Sorry. I grew up with punsters. Baby we were born to Pun! smiley - smiley

The 1 and only Elkherd

Sorry to bring this (very entertaining) dicussion back to the point, but I would like to challenge the (previously stable) position of stick at number two. The neolithic peoples of Orkney had to do entirely without sticks as they had no trees from which to procure them. They had to use whalebone for their sticky needs. Just a thought.

On Easter Island all the trees were cut down. The people who chopped down the last tree were turned into giant stone figures to atone for their sins. That's what I call sticking it up them.

Many stick uses could of course, be performed by say, a length of grass stem (assuming it's summer) or many grass stems wound to make a rope. A thin slab of stone could be used (heavy though) or maybe the leg of your last meal (assuming you're not vege.) I'm waffling.

A sutably shaped whale bone would still be called a stick wouldn't it?

Thin strips of whale bone are often used for shaping corsets. The best strips I believe come from whalebone whales which have come to a sticky end.

Thank God for that, I'd thought I'd killed this forum.

whale ribs make good arches/roof struts.

Ouroboros

I always thought that it would be interesting to build a shack in the rib cage of a whale. Can't say that it's the most pleasant dwelling place, but it sure sets that primitive mood...

I'm sure Jonah thought so too. And Pinnochio.

One of the unanswerd big questions is why did Moby let them escape...?

Post 137

Ouroboros

Oh, that reminds me. Have you ever heard of the artist Moby? He does electronic music that's really very good and he's a direct descendant of Herman Melville or something... He was on Conan O'Brien a while back.

Umm, no. Sorry. smiley - smiley

L'Toonz, Moby let them go because of an old Baron Munchausen ploy that he used whenever he was caught in the belly of a whale. "I have heard that, on occasion, a modicum of snuff can be most... effacatious.

Thank-you Wowbagger. A modicum, is that bigger or smaller than a smidgin, or is that like asking the optimum length of a stick?

Sticks are measured in beatings. As in "this has about 4 beatings in it".
