I have found a series of books that come under the name of The Bluffers Guide to.......... invaluable when a lifetimes knowledge of a subject is required eg. meeting new friends(sic), new pursuits that may impress etc. Subjects covered are antiques, Jazz, wine etc. I must add that my collection of this series does not feature prominently in my library.
