Cwm actually means valley or hollow; the word also occurs in the West of England as coombe. The Welsh word often refers specifically to a 'gouged' glacial feature which is referred to in Northern England as a corrie.

I knew that. My geography teacher, Steve "Wolf-Man" Waterman, who was at uni with the legendary DNA, taught me this, why oxbow lakes occur, and the importance of getting to the staff room early to get the Jaffa cakes. Not bad, that's two more things than I learned fomr most of my other teachers...
