A Conversation for Great Walks
The West Highland Way, Scotland

The West Highland Way is a designated path from Milngavie (pronounced Millguy) on the edge of Glasgow to Fort William. It is 95 miles long and took my father and I 7 days to walk. It travels through the Lowlands, up the side of Loch Lomond and into the Highlands, finishing at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britians highest mountain. It follows drovers roads, old railways and even old military roads and passes through some stunning scenery. I highly recommend this walk, except for the east shore of Loch Lomond. At least half of it had no proper path when I walked it, about five years ago, which makes it very tiring. Also, it is through a forest at this point, so the view is limited. Also, it is best done in September, after the midges are dead, but before it gets too cold. More info at: (URL removed by moderator)
