The Stockyards

It's a pleasure to see this Fort Worth entry in the edited guide. I'd always planned on writing an entry on the Fort Worth Stockyards, but the Fort Worth entry already has more than I know about the Stockyards. So I'll just dump what I know in here.

The Stockyards Hotel is in the middle of the Stockyards Historic District. It's a small hotel (the rooms take up one floor of a two-story building), but favored by country musicians and other important visitors. If you want to stay there, be sure to call ahead. Other hotels (chain operations) are a few blocks away.

The Stockyards is also the home of the flagship Cowboy Church (http://www.h2g2.com/A322327), and of more taverns than can be easily mentioned. The most notorious is the White Elephant, where they occasionally shoot scenes from the TV show Walker Texas Ranger.

Good info AG. When the guide eventually gets updated (2025?) your stuff will probably be included smiley - bigeyes

It's too bad I couldn't have included that info as well - but I think it's stuffed to the gills already!

What a great entry. You did a wonderful job in hitting the highlights of a rather diverse city that I am proud to call home. I don't mean to nit pick -I will though- but Hell's Half Acre was located south of downtown in the area that is now General Worth Square, the Ft. Worth Convention Center and The Water Gardens. The Stockyards are north of downtown and used to be known as Niles City.
I'm really not a pedant. Really I'm a nice guy if you get to know me it's just that sometimes this urge comes over me and I just can't...
Sorry. Thanks again for a great entry.

Excellent info Todd. Alas at the moment there is no facility to update Edited Guide entries.

The Powers at h2g2 Towers tell me that at some stage in the future they will be updating the guide and when they do stuff like you posted here will be incorporated into the original yarns - hopefully with a credit smiley - bigeyes

Wow! These are great articles, and I wish that I knew about them when I wrote the entry... Yes, we definitely need to incorporate this information into the entry, and unfortunately, we won't get that chance for quite a while. Thanks for your input!

BTW: What's your location in Fort Worth? I live quite close to downtown.

I grew up in the Oakhurst (Riverside) neigborhood. I currently live in Arlington-not my idea-but my parents are still live in the house I grew up in. I guess its not too bad living about a mile from Six Flags.

I think it'd be both good and bad (living next to Six Flags) You're right next to Wet-n-Wild (oh, excuse me - Hurricane Harbor!) and Six Flags, and you've got the Ballpark in Arlington (what marketing genius came up with that name, I wonder...) But then you've got all that traffic!
