Your entry mentions La Playa Maya, Los Vaqueros, and a few other restaurants in the Stockyards area, but misses the best of all.

Joe T. Garcia's (now owned by his son, Lanny) is quite possibly the best mexican food in the area. They've recently started selling their salsa in bottles in some local grocery stores. It's a bit difficult to find, which is unfortunate -- you have to get on North Main, a few blocks south of the Stockyards, and their sign is painted on the north side of another building. The restaurant is hard to see from outside, but once you get inside you'll discover that its garden areas fill the entire block on the other side of the stone walls. The food is wonderful and reasonably priced, but they take cash only, so beware!

Joe T's has been open for a long time -- I'm not sure of the exact age, but it's been here at *least* 30 years. There is no menu unless you come for lunch -- you can make special orders, but your basic choices are a large mexican plate including tacos, enchiladas, beans, rice, etc. (known simply as "the Dinner") or a plate of chicken or beef fajitas (my favorite).

They don't advertise much, but since the place is packed every weekend, I guess they don't really NEED to...

They are good, but they're usually really crowded - and for Mexican food, they're a little expensive. The last time we wanted to go to Joe T's, there was an hour and a half wait, so we ended up at Chuy's instead. (If there's still a Chuy's in the Stockyards, that also needs to be in this article.) But you're right - it's definitely a touristy kind of place that needs to be in this article. Maybe there'll be a chance to re-edit it later on.

BTW - my new favorite Mexican place is La Familia, on 6th St. - not far from the old Monkey Ward's. The food's great, and it's really cheap.

I totally agree about Joe T. Garcia's. It is one of the best mexican restaurants in the world. It's been around since the 30s or 40s and used to be just one room but is now very expansive. This is the one place to eat if you are ever in Fort Worth.

Yeah, there definitely needs to be a mention. It's good Tex-Mex, and the atmosphere's great. Haven't been there in about ten years, actually - there are so many yummy restaurants around that we usually don't want to put up with the *ss-whip of going to Joe's.
