Nice one. takes me back to Fallingbostel and Bergen / Hohne days.

Think I might open that jar of rollmops tonight while I drink a couple of London Prides.

(Well it was St Georges day yesterday and I ended up drinking some exquisitly served Irish Black stuff)

Congratulations Bel!

Fallingbostel was my first ever posting to Germany back in 1975. Mixed opinions about Fally until I was posted to Hohne 2 years later. As a result, I spent a lot of time visiting friends back in Fally. Although some say that the best thing about Fallingbostel is the Autobahn out of it - it's not really that bad. I have sufficient fond memories (plus the reminder in this subject of the food) I might just take a North Germany touring holiday next year. Schnitzels, pommies mit mayo, bockwurst in a tray in the open markets.

Thanks. You've just made me aware of how much I miss Germany.

That's a wonderful compliment, thank you very much. smiley - magic
I hope you'll manage to spend your holidays in Germany. smiley - ok
My sister doesn't live far from Celle (and according to the map that's close to Hohne), so I know the area a bit from visits to her. smiley - smiley

I did wonder about that, but have never heard them called frikkis. smiley - biggrin
Plus you said you could now get them in the UK, too, and I always thought they were the same as meat loafs?

aldi were selling them for a while but now tesco are as well so we get them regularly, as we only bulk shopped at aldi every now and then

You can easily make them yourself. Just mince 500g of meat (half and half), cut and dice an onion, add some Paniermehl (finely ground dried bread crumbs) and a raw egg, knead, form loaves and fry them. smiley - biggrin
