A Conversation for Recorders

The popularity of the recorder

The Recorder will perhaps never be a mainstream instrument but that depends how you define popularity. The Society of Recorder Players formed in 1932 now has 52 branches up and down the country from Orkney in the north of Scotland to Cornwall in the south. So probably more popular than people think.

The Society of Recorder Players also has a branch in Dublin. I started playing with them last year.

There are about 30 of us, with usually about 20 turning up at each monthly meeting. We've everything from contrabass up to sopranino.
