A Conversation for German Bread

My girlfriend is from Germany and the German bread is one of the biggest things she misses living with me in the US. I'd love to try making some myself if I could get my hands on some recipes. Does anyone know a site where recipes for German bread are posted? Obviously English sites are preferred but German ones will work also. And is it difficult to make?
I've been to Germany three times now and I do love the bread. I cracked up when I read the part in the post about how most people have their own electric slicer. When I first visited I was suprised that her mother had one, but it is really common.

I'm ever so sorry - I forgot to subscribe to this entry and have only just discovered your question. I could try and post a few recipes, but your girlfriend had best try and find (by mail order from you know who ..... .de) a book of recipes. The hard part may be getting hold of wholemeal flour in the States, but maybe you can help her find a supplier.
Am off to your home page to see if you're still around.
All the best. Trillian's Child.
