Hi, It's me, the researcher that wrote this entry.
realMyst appeared on store shelves in the U.S. just days before this entry made it to Edited status. Though I haven't played it yet, I've talked to some people, and they have assured me that everything I hinted at is correct. The entry talks about it in future tense, and I aplogize.

I just thought I'd tell you I just bought Myst (cheap) and I found it surprisingly exciting... the pictures are just great, the sounds add atmosphere, and the funny thing is I wander around expecting to run into someone any minute, although I know there aren't any people around... I even downloaded the screensaver...

I know, isn't that creepy? I was jumpy for days after playing Myst. (Riven actually gave me nightmares! See the article at http://www.h2g2.com/A417052 )
I keep hearing about the extra goodies that they put in realMyst (many, many extra goodies), but I'm probably not going to see that one for awhile. Slow computer here at college.
The screensaver? Do you remember where you downloaded it from?

never having played this game (although I am going to look out for second hand copies), it sounds funny that you coudl have nightmares when you KNOW nobody is around.
One other thing - can you tell me the point of the game without giving away the plot? Is it to discover something? Find someone?
What's the premise?
I loved Starship Titanic (not being a shoot-em-up enthusiast) and this also sounds like an intelligent game.

It's just the nature of the game to make you a little frightened. It's dark. There's a great deal of suspicious-sounding ambient sound effects. The music is downright creepy. There is no lack of things that simply look perfect for something to jump out from behind.
It would be difficult and confusing to tell you the object of the game outright, as the game itself doesn't make that evident. Ideally, you are meant to poke around and eventually discover what you are meant to do there. I'll disclose that a lot of it has to do with betrayl, foul play and who you're more likely to trust.
I heard that Starship Titanic was very good, and most people that loved S.T. were avid Myst fans as well. Good luck finding a second hand copy of the classic Myst game, many fans are starting to see older copies as collector's items. (Though only a few months ago I saw it on sale for $7.00 new online.)

Ooooh... that music....

choose 'What's new' then 'Goodies' - and there you'll find the screensaver - with that music that makes my mind tingle...

Suddenly this article popped up in '5 most overlooked' - now, we can't have that, can we?

Has anyone tried downloading the screen saver - and did you like it?

yes, I downloaded it soon after you pointed the way. I did like it. I see what you mean about the music, although it would probably get on my nerves after playing the game for several hours!
I have yet to go out and actually buy a copy of the game, I am saving that as a reward on losing the first five kilos on a new weight loss kick I am on! So probably in a couple of weeks I will get it.

Congratulations, Tashalls! I probably need to loose some weight too, after all the Christmas food...
Oh, the music isn't playing all the time, sometimes it's just the wind blowing, or the waves...

Aaargh! How did that happen? I tear myself away from my computer for a few days and I end up on the "Most Overlooked" list???
How do they determine what's "Overlooked", anyway? Is it just a tally of hits? (Do remember, it used to be called "Least Popular" or something like that not too long ago.)

I know, it's very misleading - I know some researchers just keep posting comments everywhere to get into most prolific, and some forums that are most popular are not official Guide entries (that's not a bad thing, though, as it shows would-be writers what subjects are most popular)
But I would imagine there are plenty of entries that could qualify for most overlooked, so I don't understand how they pick out five and put them on the front page. Although it does highlight your entry in some way, and gets the conversation going again!
BTW Titania - thanks for the words of encouragement - I had a "weigh in" this week, and discovered I only have one kilo to go before I can buy Myst
*looks excited*

Tashalls, what a great idea to reward yourself - that sounds motivating! *thinking of trying something like that herself*

... but whatever you do, don't keep food within arm's reach of the computer. It is very tempting to do, I know. Instead, make yourself take a break every, say, couple or three hours or so and grab a quick bite (of fruit, of course). Also, use the opporitunity to stare at a well-lighted object out of your window in the distance-- this will help reduce eyestrain known to build up during prolonged periods of intense Mysting.
Did you know?
One hour of intense mental activity has been calculated as causing the same amount of fatigue as five hours of mild physical labor in laboratory tests. (Or so I've heard...)

I think that might be true, about the intense mental activity - but I don't feal that playing Myst is that fatigueing.... my work is worse, during certain periods of time, involving a lot of thinking and calculating, with a dead-line...
