An interesting article 
I remember reading some academic work on this work a few years back and the conclusion they came to was that the Four Seasons were originally separate Concerti which had, it is known but blowed if I can find the reference now, been written over something like a 20 year period. It was finally put together either shortly before and after old Tony's death.
When I have time I must dig out the information!

I recall reading that this piece was a long time in the composing (uncharacteristic of Mr V.), but don't have any more detail about it ...
