Dear Matt,

Very good explication of an action which I often used to practise when a young schoolgirl!. Is it therefore a generational gesture.?

Now I confine the gesture to two kinds of screens - computer and TV. !!

Surely male dancers wear codpieces? I have always believed that they did. !

Anyway, I shall be interested to know when, where and why they were introduced.
