the main difficulty in asthma is breathing OUT not breathing in, hence the lungs get overinflated and breathing becomes more difficult. the importance of taking steroid inhalers ("preveneters") is that part of the airway obstruction is fixed due to the airway inflammation and will not respond to the bronchodilator ("reliever"). I have never seen cyclosporin used - methotrexate yes. methotrexate is also used for rheumatoid arthritis commonly.
you don't mention the more modern treatments like Omalizumab
