A Conversation for Paintball

Footnote 2 -- retooled markers

I actually did not write footnote 2, and I don't know who did. I assume it was one of the
editors. While I'm sure they mean well, I object to it on the basis that any
reputable field will chronograph all personal paintball markers, ensuring that nobody plays with
"hot guns". Any field that allows people to bring in their own markers without testing them
to ensure that they comply to the local velocity limits is a field that must be avoided.

A standard velocity seems to be three hundred feet per second. Under no circumstances
should any marker be faster than that. Many fields restrict it even lower than that, especially
indoor paintball fields.

People who retool their markers to make them shoot faster than the allowed limits
are cheaters, poor sports, and reckless players. They are to be amongst the lowest of
the low in the paintball world -- the "wipers". If you bring your marker to a field, make sure
you find out the local velocity limit, and adjust your marker accordingly.

I have to agree with Garin. Having been playing Paintball since 1984 in the US AND overseas, participating in numerous tournaments and having played at countless fields, I feel I am qualified to say that they are the exception and NOT the rule.

EVERY outdoor field I've EVER been at has required players to chrono their gun before playing ever since guns have been able to be adjusted. On average, most fields require the guns be tuned between 280 to 290 fps and no higher. If someone even suspects a player of using a "hot" gun, they inform a referee and that player is pulled off the field and made to chrono immediately! If they are running hot, they're made to tune it down, if they're caught again, they are summarily ejected. NO field owner can afford the insurance to pay for people getting constantly injured, they'd soon be out of business.

If you're playing at a field and they don't follow these rules, I'd not only leave, I'd report them as well!
