What be 'modern'?

People have a tendency to believe a lot of strange things. Sometimes they believe that truly modern things have only been around since they first began to be aware of them. Other times they think that something ubiquitous is timeless and has to have been around for human usage since the first neanderthal said, 'Boy, do you have a small forehead!'
