Just to mention in passing that as Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series grow older, more and more elements of "steampunk" appear to be creeping into a pseudo-Victorian landscape. The clockwork semaphore system (the Clacks) that takes the place of telephones is a prime example, as is HEX, the wholly unique ant-driven computeer mainframe.
