Harrumph! 10BC means ten years before the birth of Christ. Thus your first sentence states that Florence was a recognized city 49 years BEFORE the first settlers arrived.

Yeah, Ash me old mate. The original said "10th Century BC" which is a heck of a lot earlier than 10BC. Can you change it please?
